The Sanderson Gazette - 2009-12-30 - Season Three Final

For the second year in a row, the Blingabowl came down to the last active player. Rabbit needed 20.75 points from Tony Romo, but fell 5.55 points short of Matt, the new Blingaleague champion and current possesor of the Sanderson Cup.

Draft Lottery Update

Pulley is really impatient to find out if he gets the #1 pick next year. As much as I'd love to tell him he has the sixth pick, I'm going to wait to run the draft lottery until there's another Blingaleague member present to witness.

Weekly Recap

Matt def. Rabbit, 86.91-81.36:

Neither finalist had a particularly good week. Matt got very good games from Wes Welker, Steve Smith (Giants version), and Kris Brown, and survived a big fat 0 from Steven Jackson, a game-time scratch. Rabbit only had a big week from Mason Crosby, and lack of stud performers, combined with the Giants' defense losing six points, his team failed to win the Cup.

Derrek def. Rob, 131.77-110.94:

Rob wins the hard-luck award this year. After scoring more than 130 points last week and losing, he puts up another 110 and can't even finish in the money. Pulley must be so happy.

Weekly Awards

Team Blangums (Top Score): Last Place Italians scored 131.77 points.

Slapped Heartbeat (Low Score): Sister Curls only managed 81.36 points.

Start of the Week: Matt started Steve Smith (15.33 points) over Michael Crabtree (9.07) and Chris Chambers (4.53), and was rewarded with a championship.

Misplay of the Week: Matt wouldn't have needed a big day from the lesser Smith had he known to sit Steven Jackson, just like the Rams did. Jackson didn't play and cost Matt the 12.00 points that Pierre Thomas could have put up in his place.

Season Summaries

Matt Harrison (Harrison Hammers), 9-4, 1378.92 points:

Positives: Steven Jackson was a worthy #1 overall pick. Aaron Rodgers had a superb season and has another year left available as a keeper. Wes Welker had a very good year. The Sanderson Cup is glorious.

Negatives: Any negatives would sound like sour grapes.

Nick "Rabbit" Warren (Sister Curls), 10-3, 1346.80 poins:

Positives: Maurice Jones-Drew was his usual awesome self. Vincent Jackson had a huge year. Pierre Garcon was a great early-season pickup. The QB duo of Romo and Roethlisberger was more than adequate.

Negatives: Tomlinson had a very inconsistent season. Rabbit's biggest negative was that his team laid an egg in the worst week possible.

Closing Thoughts

I suck at this: I misspelled Roethlisberger TWICE last week. Serves me right for writing the newsletter after going out for drinks at night.

Expect another newsletter in the Spring to give the draft lottery results. It will pick up once more when keeper declaration starts next July.

Once again, here are the odds for each non-playoff team for receiving the first pick in next year's draft:

Adam Pulley => 27.73%

Dave Fultz => 18.15%

Mike Romor => 17.28%

Mark Babel => 17.06%

Pat Gawne => 10.16%

Allen Clark => 9.62%

Everyone have a safe and happy New Year!

Until next spring,

-Ed
