The Sanderson Gazette - 2013-12-18 - King Charles

If only I hadn't used "Charles in Charge" as a Gazette headline last year...

Semifinals Recap

Matt def. Dave, 179.98-116.02:

The most successful season in Dave's history has come to a crashing halt, though it's not due to a poor showing on hist part; his 116.02 would have won over 80% of all games, historically. Matt suffered through 4.63 from Danny Woodhead, 3.33 from Jimmy Graham, and -1.00 from the Cincinnati defense - but still set the all-time points record thanks in large part to Jamaal Charles's 58.00.

Rob def. Pulley, 102.74-68.74:

This marks two straight blowouts in the Clash of Hatred, both in Rob's favor. Looking at Pulley's starting lineup, it's amazing he made it this far; Tiquan Underwood (2.00) and Marlon Brown (4.13) were his WRs, and Jacob Tamme (1.20) was his TE. Though something named "Jordan Todman" did score 16.77 for him.

Fifth-Place Game Result

Mike R. def. Ed, 118.83-67.87.

Weekly Awards

Team Blangums: Matt, 179.98. Again, that's the highest score ever.

Slapped Heartbeat: My 67.87 barely edges out Pulley's 68.74.

Weekly MVP: Jamaal Charles, 58.00. Again, that's the highest score ever.

Season Postmortems

Dave (and Kyle) Fultz (Coach Bombay's DD, 8-7, 3rd/4th (pending third-place game)):

Well, he finally made the playoffs, thanks to a strong late-season run. And Josh Gordon - who was a big part of that stellar finish - looks to be a great keeper. He'll have to say goodbye to Cam Newton and Darren Sproles after three solid years at dirt cheap prices.

Estimated wins: 7.494.

Adam Pulley (Pullman's MondoSquad, 8-6, 3rd/4th (pending third-place game)):

Pulley returned to the playoffs for the first time in three years, and it was an interesting journey. Post-draft, his team looked awesome; but now, not so much. It's a testament to his in-season tinkering that he finished with a solid 8-5 record.

Estimated wins: 6.625.

Blingabowl VI Preview

Harrison Hammers (Matt, 12-2, #1) vs. THRILLHO (Rob, 9-5, #2):

Matt leads all-time series, 5-2.

This is Matt's fourth Blingabowl appearance in six seasons. That's impressive.

And one of our two non-Matt Blingabowls featured Rob, in the contest that made the Clash of Hatred what it is today.

Rob got away with several misplays in his semifinal match, but he really can't afford to make any mistakes this week, as he's going up against what could be the best team in Blingaleague history.

Pick: Harrison Hammers

Third-Place Game Preview

Pullman's MondoSquad (Pulley, 8-6, #3) vs. Coach Bombay's DD (Dave, 8-7, #5):

Dave leads all-time series, 5-2.

Pulley had a good run, but Dave's team just looks stronger.

Pick: Coach Bombay's DD.

Closing Thoughts

Good luck to both Matt and Rob. Will we get a brand new name etched on Sandy?
