The Sanderson Gazette - 2016-10-12 - Last Gillasp
Now that the Cubs/Giants series is over, maybe the Pullman and our resident Cub fans will go back to football talk in the chat. Maybe.
Week Five Recap
Kevin def. Rabbit, 133.02-98.51:
Our Game of the Blingaweek wasn't particularly competitive, but it gave Kevin a platform to announce his legitimacy as a contender. David Johnson (31.43) continued his fantasy MVP season and Amari Cooper (26.40) and Derek Carr (23.65) had big weeks, as well. Philip Rivers put up 28.95 for Rabbit.
Rob def. Derrek, 109.85-103.42:
Rob's - er, BlingaWoj's - shit-talking almost bit him in the ass, but James Starks (5.83) couldn't squeeze out seven more points on Sunday night. Rob was led by new acquisition Larry Fitzgerald (22.80) and old faithful Brandon Marshall (21.20). Derrek got a surprising 30.53 from Sammie Coates but could close the deal.
Dave def. Ed, 113.30-101.55:
Our only other close-ish game came down to Monday night, where Ed got 17.87 from Mike Evans and 20.50 from Cameron Artis-Payne, but still fell short of the Fultz brothers' lofty score. Dave got another stellar game from Jordan Howard (23.80) and a surprising 19.47 from Devonta Freeman against the Bronco defense.
Schertz def. Allen, 129.47-77.03:
Allen got 30.33 from Ezekiel Elliot, but no one else on his team broke 10.93 (Marvin Jones, Jr.). Ben Roethlisberger put up 32.50 for JuJu, and T.Y. Hilton added 28.80, but Schertz couldn't hold onto Team Blangums over Kev.
Pulley def. Babel, 112.10-74.07:
Tom Brady came back with a huge 33.20 for Pulley, though he didn't really need it against Mark's rough-looking team. Kirk Cousins and Randall Cobb led the way with identical 14.40 scores for Babel. Meanwhile, Martellus Bennett (26.93) also saw a huge boost from the return of Brady on Pullman's side of the ledger.
Richie def. Mike R., 108.72-60.32:
Richie actually thought he'd lose this game.
Matt def. Pat, 109.18-71.45:
The shine has officially come off Pat after his 2-0 start. Matt broke his even/odd pattern thanks to a crazy-good day from Marcus Mariota (32.15) filling in for the injured Cam Newton.

Weekly Awards
Team Blangums: Kevin's 133.02 brings him his first Team Blangums of the season.
Slapped Heartbeat: Mike R.'s season hits a new low with a 60.32.
Weekly MVP: David Johnson's 31.43 propelled Kevin to Team Blangums.
Dud of the Week: If Derrek could have gotten a decent game from the Denver defense, he'd have won; instead, they scored 3.00.
Start of the Week: Rob acquired two receivers last week: Larry Fitzgerald and Kelvin Benjamin. He chose to play the former, and was rewarded with 22.80 points (instead of 9.33).
Misplay of the Week: Who would have though Tevin Coleman (26.70) would have such a huge game in Denver? Not Ed, as he played Matt Forte (6.23) and took the loss.
Week Six Preview
Game of the Blingaweek
Not Mos Def (Rob, 4-1, 1st) vs. schertzopotamus (Schertz, 3-2, 5th):
Schertz leads all-time series, 4-1.
Rob's in first place, but points (577.57 vs. 554.47) and expected wins (3.8 vs. 3.4) both suggest Schertz has the better team. Rob's been led by Brandon Marshall (@ARI) and Drew Brees (vs. CAR), but his team is probably best-defined by LeGarrette Blount (vs. CIN). The Patriots' RB has had an excellent year so far... but how long will it last? Like Rob's team, Blount is fairly volatile.
Schertz has relied on big games from Ben Roethlisberger (@MIA) and T.Y. Hilton (@HOU) despite some iffy RB production from Terrance West (@NYG) and Ryan Mathews (@WAS). But his team is very much like Antonio Brown (@MIA): quietly having an awesome year.
Pick: schertzopotamus.
Other Blingamatches
Pralines & Dick (Rabbit, 1-4, 12th) vs. Inconceivable (Richie, 4-1, 3rd):
Rabbit leads all-time series, 3-1.
Our two polar opposites, Richie's got a great record despite some bad scores, while Rabbit's got a bad record despite a lot of points.
Rabbit's representative player: Philip Rivers: great stats, but one win.
Richie's representative player: Dak Prescott: winning a lot, but is it really due to his play?
Pick: Pralines & Dick.
The Chocolate Donuts (Kevin, 4-1, 2nd) vs. D's Nuts (Derrek, 2-3, 10th):
Derrek leads all-time series, 7-1.
David Johnson vs. Le'Veon Bell. That's what this game comes down to.
Kevin's representative player: Derek Carr. As go the Raiders, so goes Kevin.
Derrek's representative player: T.J. Yeldon, who never looks that good, but somehow winds up with enough fantasy points to be solidly middle-of-the-pack.
Live Commish (Ed, 2-3, 9th) vs. Harrison Hammers (Matt, 3-2, 7th):
Matt leads all-time series, 6-5.
Week six is too early for a do-or-die game, but this one could be big to shape the playoff picture.
Ed's representative player: Odell Beckham, Jr., who's having an OK year, but should be much better.
Matt's representative player: Julio Jones. High highs, low lows, always dangerous.
Pick: Harrison Hammers.
Keep Calm & Le'Veon (Babel, 1-4, 13th) vs. Optimus Prime (Allen, 3-2, 8th):
Babel leads all-time series, 6-4.
Russell Wilson (vs. ATL) will be back for Allen, while Babel has some players, too.
Allen's representative player: Isaiah Crowell, who has been really good fantasy-wise, but, um... see me in four weeks.
Babel's representative player: Randall Cobb, a shell of his former self.
Pick: Optimus Prime.
Super Bash Bros. (Dave, 3-2, 4th) vs. Vinegar Strokes (Pat, 2-3, 11th):
Dave leads all-time series, 4-3.
Dave was 0-2, Pat was 2-0. How things change in three weeks.
Dave's representative player: Devonta Freeman, who seems matchup-proof.
Pat's representative player: Willie Snead had a great first two weeks, but where the hell did he go?
Pick: Super Bash Bros.
Bernie's Bullies (Mike R., 0-5, 14th) vs. Pullman's MondoSquad (Pulley, 3-2, 6th):
Mike R. leads all-time series, 5-4.
Yeah, that all-time series should be tied up at this time next year.
Mike R.'s representative player: Dez Bryant. He's hurt, and didn't even really produce when he was healthy.
Pulley's representative player: Carlos Hyde scores points in game situations where he shouldn't, just like Pulley succeeds despite being without his top QB and RB for four weeks.
Closing Thoughts
Dave's .756 expected winning percentage is fourth-highest ever through five weeks, and Schertz's .734 is seventh. More fun stats like this can be found on blingaleague.com's Season Finder (example).
