The Sanderson Gazette - 2017-10-18 - Better

Good news, everyone! Week six's 95.04 average score was the highest of 2017! That said, it ranks 79th out of 123 total...

Week Six Recap

https://blingaleague.com/week/2017/6/

Pulley def. Dave, 125.32-91.13:

For the fist hour-plus, it looked like Pulley would have another iffy week, but this time against an opponent who would take advantage of it, as Tom Brady (18.75) and Rob Gronkowski (23.07) had barely any points between them. Two touchdowns later, and he'd improved to 5-1 on the year, possibly our weirdest start to a season ever (more on that later). Dave didn't have a bad week, but failed to become only the second 6-0 team ever.

Derrek def. Rob, 108.93-100.98:

Derrek continued his high level of production, with Le'Veon Bell (25.50) and the Houston defense (24.00) leading the way. Seven of Rob's nine players hit double digits, but his lack of twenty-pointers led him to this tough loss.

Schertz def. Pat, 102.90-95.00:

Antonio Brown's massive 26.67-point game offset T.Y. Hilton's meager 2.53 for JuJu, but the big story here is Aaron Rodgers's injury for Pat. Because he left the game early, the Packers QB put up only 0.90, likely costing Pat his second win of the year.

Matt def. Babel, 92.25-89.55:

Relying on Cam Newton (22.05) has led Matt to three straight wins (after it arguably led him to three straight losses), and Evan Engram (16.93) took advantage of the fact that the Giants have almost no healthy WRs. Babel also got bitten by a QB injury, as Jameis Winston scored only 3.05 before leaving the game.

Kevin def. Mike R., 103.06-64.55:

Our defending champ cruised to an easy win desipte no 20-point scorers thanks to a dud from Bernie. Philip Rivers (16.50) was the leading scorer for Kev, while Mike Gillislee's 2.40 was emblematic of Mike's week.

Rabbit def. Ed, 106.73-86.31:

Ed had a close lead heading into Monday night, but DeMarco Murray (16.27) and Donte Moncrief (8.93) were able to finish what Kirk Cousins (30.60) started for Rabs. Jerick McKinnon's 20.90 points were wasted in the losing effort.

Richie def. Allen, 94.01-69.82:

This looked like another ho-hum game between bottom-tier teams until Derrick Henry (20.97) had a long, late TD for Richie. Allen did get a nice 15.73 from Demaryius Thomas, though.

Weekly Awards

Team Blangums: Pulley's 125.32 is a non-notable Blangums (and his third of the year).

Slapped Heartbeat: Mike R.'s 64.55 is our low for the week.

Weekly MVP: Le'Veon Bell's 25.50 takes this in a close race, as his great game pushed D to a win over a tough opponent.

Dud of the Week: Delanie Walker had 2.00 points on the first two plays of the MNF game, but ended up with 1.97 in a critical loss for Ed.

Start of the Week: Derrek played the Houston defense (24.00 points, bitches!) over the Philadelphia defense (7.00) and won by less than eight points.

Misplay of the Week: Rob stuck with Drew Brees and his 13.40 over Deshaun Watson and his 25.05 and lost by less than eight points.

Blessed Cahoots: Schertz avoided a tough loss thanks to the aforementioned Aaron Rodgers injury.

Week Seven Preview

Game of the Blingaweek

The Chocolate Donuts (Kevin, 4-2, 5th) vs. D's Nuts (Derrek, 4-2, 3rd):

Derrek leads all-time series, 7-2 (link).

The winner of this game will reach 5-2 on the year, which is important; only two 5-2 teams have missed the playoffs (2008 Derrek and 2014 Schertz) (link).

Both of these guys rely on Texans, but Kevin's (DeAndre Hopkins) is more important than D's (defense) - so the bye-week advantage goes to Derrek there. Throw in Le'Veon Bell (vs. CIN) and Matt Ryan (@NE), and D looks like he can overcome Davante Adams's (vs. NO) new QB woes.

Pick: D's Nuts.

Other Blingamatches

Chili Right Away (Dave, 5-1, 1st) vs. Keep Calm & GordOn (Babel, 3-3, 6th):

Babel leads all-time series, 8-2 (link).

Through five weeks, these looked like the two teams to beat, but both had setbacks in week six. The injury bug recently suffered by Dave spread to Mark, as Leonard Fournette (@IND) and Jameis Winston (@BUF) both might not play this week. Throw in Melvin Gordon's tough matchup vs. DEN, and it looks like Dave should take this one.

Pick: Chili Right Away.

Rob for Today (Rob, 4-2, 4th) vs. schertzopotamus (Schertz, 3-3, 7th):

Schertz leads all-time series, 5-2 (link).

Antonio Brown (vs. CIN) and T.Y. Hilton (vs. JAC) mean that Schertz can win any game, but his RB situation is so dire he'll be playing Matt Forte (@MIA) this week. Rob, meanwhile, has Drew Brees (@GB) and Zach Ertz (vs. WAS).

Pick: Rob for Today.

Pullman's MondoSquad (Pulley, 5-1, 2nd) vs. Inconceivable (Richie, 2-4, 10th):

Pulley leads all-time series, 5-1 (link).

As long as Tom Brady (vs. ATL) and Rob Gronkowski (vs. ATL) are healthy, Pulley has clear edge here.

Pick: Pullman's MondoSquad.

Pralines & Dick (Rabbit, 3-3, 9th) vs. Optimus Prime (Allen, 2-4, 12th):

Rabbit leads all-time series, 6-3 (link).

Allen gets Ezekiel Elliott (@SF) back this week, but also doesn't currently have a QB not on bye. Rabbit has some TE issues of his own, but will LeSean McCoy (vs. TAM) and DeMarco Murray (@CLE) be enough?

Pick: Pralines & Dick.

Live Commish (Ed, 1-5, 13th) vs. Harrison Hammers (Matt, 3-3, 8th):

All-time series tied, 6-6 (link).

My fifth loss effectively ended my season, so I've already traded for a 2018 keeper. Mike Evans (@BUF) and Russell Wilson (@NYG) should still make me dangerous, though. Matt is running with Cam Newton (@CHI), whose production has been directly tied to wins and losses.

Pick: Live Commish.

Bernie's Bullies (Mike R., 2-4, 11th) vs. Noodles and Vistas (Pat, 1-5, 14th):

Mike R. leads all-time series, 5-4 (link).

Pat picked up Tyrod Taylor (vs. TAM) to replace Aaron Rodgers, but that's a huge downgrade. Bernie still has A.J. Green (@PIT).

Pick: Bernie's Bullies.

Closing Thoughts

Not much this week - apologies if blingaleague.com has been slow, I'm trying to figure out why.
