Blingabowl XV Recap

Rob vs. Mike R.

So, uh, yeah. This game was coming down to Monday night, with Joe Burrow going for Rob and Tee Higgins for Mike and the latter holding on to a lead of roughly ten points. But, of course, the Monday night game was postponed in the first quarter after Damar Hamlin nearly died on the field, which has led to an undecided Blingabowl and no good options for resolving that. But the show must go on, as they say, so...

The Resolution

First of all, a big thank you to those of you who gave me your input over the last couple of days. At the very least, you helped reassure me that we weren't missing any obviously superior solutions. If it had come to me making a ruling, I'm confident I would have come up with something that a good number of you agreed with, and most others at least saw the logic in and wouldn't have been strongly against.

But, secondly, I didn't have to make that ruling. That's because Rob and Mike R. figured out a way forward between the two of them:

If the NFL at any point decides that Monday night's game is an officially completed game as it currently stands and the statistics count - i.e. a 7-3 Bengals win with less than a quarter of game play - we will use those statistics to determine the winner of Blingabowl XV. (This would mean Mike R. is the champion.) To be clear, even if the NFL's official decision is made in this way after week 18 games are played, this ruling will apply.

If the NFL decides anything else - e.g. that the game will be completed after the regularly-scheduled week 18 games, that it is completely voided, or that it is a mutual forfeit - then the resolution is more complex. Joe Burrow's 6.80 points from week 17 will not count toward Rob's Blingabowl XV score, and instead he will be allowed to play a QB in week 18; this can be Burrow or a QB picked up from waivers or free agency. Likewise, Tee Higgins's 1.73 points from week 17 will not count for Mike, and instead he will be allowed to play a flex-eligible player in week 18; this can be Higgins, any other player on his roster that was not started in week 17, or a player picked up from waivers or free agency. (Note that while Higgins was started in a WR slot for Mike, this compromise allows for him to treat it as a flex position in order to be agreed upon - i.e. he can play Derrick Henry.)

Furthermore, to prevent Rob and Mike to have an extra week to dump useless players for longshot keepers, each will be limited to a net addition of only one player to their final roster - i.e. they can drop Player One for Player Two, and then Player Two for Player Three, but they cannot drop Player One for Player Two and Player Four for Player Three.

Finally, Rob and Mike have agreed to evenly split both the first- and second-place payouts.

Third-Place Game Recap

Dave vs. Derrek

Dave is winning by nearly thirty points, but Derrek did have Dawson Knox in the Buffalo-Cincinnati game. I have spoken to Dave, and he's agreed that the same solution to the Blingabowl can apply here. Derrek will be allowed to use the week 18 points for Knox or another tight end of his choosing (and each team will be allowed to add one new player to their roster).

Closing Thoughts

Thanks again to everyone for giving me honest input, it was all very helpful in thinking through solutions to this unprecedented situation. And thank you for trusting me to make the right decision.

And once again, best of luck to Rob and Mike!
